It’s something we take as much for granted as the air we breath – the water that comes out of our taps every day, the water we drink and cook with, the water we bathe in. But how safe is it, really?

Do you know that many health experts thing that water contamination may be America’s number one health problem? More than 70% of the human body is made up of water. That means we need pure water to make sure out body does not become a holding vessel for pollutants and toxins. Water is the foundation of our health, and if that foundation is anything less than pure, the whole body is at risk. Today, there are thousands chemicals used in our society, with more than a 1,000 new ones introduced each year. The Federal safe Drinking water Act regulates only 100 chemicals. All the rest are floating around in our environment as virtual unknowns. Every day, our fresh water supply may be exposed to literally hundreds of toxic chemicals. How

safe can that be? Consider: in 1992 and 1993 alone there were over 230,000 violations of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act by public water systems. That’s just for the few contaminants that are currently being regulated. The system has broken down, unable to cope with the byproducts of our industrialized society.

If you are sick, have been to a dozen doctors, none of which have been able to help you or pinpoint what is wrong with you, you may want to check the one thing you never suspected of making you sick – the ordinary water you drink everything from chronics fatigue to symptoms of arthritis may come from drinking contaminated water.

What You Can Do The answer is to make sure the water you drink is pure Many think the best answer is bottled water. The shocking truth is, however, that bottled water is no more guaranteed to be pure than ordinary tap water. In fact, much of the water you buy in bottles is just that -- tap water! Just because some company pumps water into a lot of fancy bottles with fancy lables pasted on them does not mean that there is anything special about what you are buying. Bottled water bears all of the same risks as any other source of water.

What you need to do is test the water you drink to ensure it is as pure as it is supposed to be, whether it comes from your tap or the grocery store. There is a simple test kit you can buy from any pool or spa store to check the amount of chlorine in your water. You squirt to few drops of a substance called orthotolidence (OTO) into the water, and it turns the water yellow to indicate the level of chlorine. You compare the tested water to the color bar, and if the water Is too yellow, it’s considered unsafe to swim in. yet many times, if you use this test on your tap water, you’ll find it at the top of the chart—in other words, not safe to swim in, let alone drink!
